Ron's resentment finally boils over after an argument about their lack of progress. He accuses Harry of leading them aimlessly and not having a real plan. Despite Hermione's attempts to mediate, Ron decides to leave, accusing Harry of being indifferent to his family's safety. In a final act of defiance, Ron removes the Horcrux and storms off, Disapparating into the night. Hermione is left heartbroken, and Harry is overwhelmed by a sense of betrayal.
