Harry realizes he must submerge himself in the frozen pool to retrieve the Sword of Gryffindor. He strips off his clothes and uses a Severing Charm to break the ice. The cold water is unbearable, but Harry manages to reach the sword. However, as he tries to resurface, the Horcrux around his neck tightens, strangling him and preventing him from escaping.
