    On Sunday morning, Harry is so distracted by thoughts of the upcoming First Task that he nearly puts his hat on his foot instead of a sock. He finds Hermione Granger and Ginny Weasley at breakfast, but feeling too nervous to eat, he drags Hermione outside to talk about the dragons and Sirius Black's warnings. Hermione believes the dragons are the bigger threat and they spend the day searching for spells to subdue one.

    Harry and Hermione Research in the Library to Find a Spell for the First Task
    Failing to come up with a spell for subduing a dragon during their walk, Harry and Hermione head to the library. They search through numerous books about dragons but only find spells for healing them. Frustrated, they begin reviewing simpler spellbooks, though none of the spells seem strong enough for the task.

    Harry Decides to Tell Cedric Diggory About the Dragons
    The next morning, Harry seriously considers running away from Hogwarts to avoid the First Task. Ultimately, he decides he can't leave, and notices that Cedric Diggory still doesn't know about the dragons. After a brief internal debate, Harry sabotages Cedric's bag to get him alone and warns him about the dragons, believing it's only fair that all the champions know.

    Alastor Moody Praises Harry for Warning Cedric
    After Harry warns Cedric, Alastor Moody overhears and pulls Harry into his office. Moody commends Harry for his fairness in warning Cedric and begins giving him advice for the First Task. Moody's suggestion to "play to his strengths" leads Harry to realize that flying could be his key to success.

    After realizing he will need his Firebolt to outfly the dragon, Harry rushes to find Hermione to help him master the Summoning Charm. They practice all day, skipping lunch and even working through the night under the Invisibility Cloak in an empty classroom, until Harry can finally perform the spell.

    Harry Faces the Hungarian Horntail in the First Task
    On the day of the First Task, Harry, along with the other champions, is led to the arena. Each champion draws a miniature dragon from a bag to determine their challenge. Harry draws the Hungarian Horntail, the most dangerous of the four. Using the Summoning Charm, Harry calls his Firebolt and successfully outflies the dragon, retrieving the golden egg.

    Harry's First Task Success Earns Praise from McGonagall, Rubeus Hagrid, and Moody
    After Harry successfully retrieves the golden egg, he is greeted by Professor McGonagall, Rubeus Hagrid, and Alastor Moody, who congratulate him. Hagrid, in particular, is thrilled that Harry succeeded against the Horntail. Professor McGonagall sends Harry to Poppy Pomfrey for healing.

    Bagman Informs the Champions About the Second Task
    After receiving his scores, Harry, along with the other champions, returns to the tent, where Ludo Bagman congratulates them. He informs them that the Second Task will take place in February and gives them their golden eggs, which contain a clue for the next challenge. Harry leaves the tent feeling relieved but still curious about the second task.
