Before leaving, Tom Riddle reveals to Dumbledore that he can speak to snakes, a power known as Parseltongue. Riddle's casual mention of this rare and dark ability alarms Dumbledore, but he does not openly express concern. Riddle, however, seems proud of his abilities and keen to explore them further.
