As they console Hagrid, Hermione accidentally discovers Scabbers, Ron's missing pet rat, hiding in Hagrid's milk jug. Scabbers looks sickly and terrified, and Ron is baffled by his pet's sudden reappearance. Before they can discuss it further, Rubeus Hagrid warns them that the officials are arriving, and the trio must leave.
