The Appearance of the Black Dog

As Ron catches Scabbers, the massive black dog that Harry had seen earlier suddenly appears and attacks them. It knocks Harry down and bites into Ron's arm, dragging him toward the Whomping Willow. Harry and Hermione try to intervene, but the dog pulls Ron into a gap under the tree. The trio realizes that Ron's leg has been broken in the struggle.
