During the chaos of Lupin's transformation, Peter Pettigrew takes advantage of the situation. He grabs Lupin's wand, knocks Ron unconscious, and disarms Crookshanks before transforming into a rat. He escapes, leaving behind his manacle, while Sirius Black, now injured from fighting the werewolf, chases after him in his Animagus form.
