During the duel with Draco Malfoy, Malfoy conjures a snake with a spell. When the snake targets Justin Finch-Fletchley, Harry instinctively speaks Parseltongue to command the snake to leave Justin alone. Although Harry believes he is protecting Justin, the other students react with fear, and Justin runs away. Harry is shocked when Ron and Hermione reveal that speaking to snakes is associated with Salazar Slytherin and Dark magic.
