After killing the basilisk, Harry is bitten by its venomous fang and begins to succumb to the poison. Fawkes, the phoenix, heals Harry's wound with his tears. Tom Riddle taunts Harry, believing that he is dying, but becomes shocked as he realizes the phoenix's healing powers.
