Riddle Summons the Basilisk

Tom Riddle summons the basilisk by speaking Parseltongue to the statue of Salazar Slytherin. The massive serpent emerges from the statue's mouth, and Riddle commands it to kill Harry. Harry, keeping his eyes shut to avoid the basilisk's deadly gaze, tries to evade it while Fawkes attacks the serpent, blinding it by gouging out its eyes.
