In Gilderoy Lockhart's office, Albus Dumbledore examines Mrs. Norris and determines that she is not dead but petrified. Lockhart, eager to impress, continuously suggests unlikely explanations, claiming to know how to reverse the curse. Filch remains distraught, convinced Harry is responsible and reveals his secret of being a Squib. Albus Dumbledore calms Filch by explaining that Pomona Sprout's Mandrakes will eventually cure Mrs. Norris.
